Uzès can get very crowded during market day, but we thought it was still worth a visit. Summer can be hot in Provence, but it is the best time to enjoy a swim under the Pont du Gard. Make sure to have plenty of water and sunscreen on hand.

Recommended day/time
Recommended day/time

Visit the market in Uzès on either Wednesday or Saturday and go earlier in the day to avoid the heat and larger crowds.

While we found that most prices were fair, don't be afraid to barter a bit with the vendors at the market if needed.

Uzès is a very beautiful village. It's a perfect picture of Provence and an amazing place to do a bit of shopping. Children will enjoy seeing all the sights while eating lots of yummy food while parents will enjoy all the great French products (clothes, perfumes, wine, etc.).
DIRECTIONS Uzès is a 6.5 hour drive south of Paris and is a little over an hour's drive north of Montpellier.
TIP It can get rather crowded at the market, especially later in the day. Make sure to keep a close eye on kids so they don't get lost.

The Pont du Gard is an impressive ancient Roman aqueduct that spans the Gardon River. It's a great place for a picnic and an even better place for a swim! Parents will marvel at the world heritage site before them and kids will enjoy wading in the river (and if they're lucky, they might even see a frog or two!) After your swim, make sure to walk across the bridge to get up close to the aqueduct and enjoy the beautiful views of the river below.
DIRECTIONS From Uzès, drive 25 minutes on the D981 to the Pont du Gard.
TIP Make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen!
