Make sure to bring sturdy shoes. It's a rocky territory.

The walk up to the chateau is a bit steep and rocky. The chateau grounds itself are also steep in parts. I wouldn’t recommended this for children under 3 years. You can buy tickets on-site.

The Château des Baux is a fortified castle built during the 10th century in southwest France. It has one of the most beautiful views as it's relatively high up in the hills of Provence. The castle still has the original framework intact and although it is rocky everywhere, you can walk around and recreate the scenes with your imagination. All the original rooms, stalls, grounds and artifacts are identified. It's like walking through a real-life magical castle.
DIRECTIONS You need a car to get to Château des Baux-de-Provence. The Château des Baux-de-Provence is located 15 km (9.3 mi) northeast of Arles and 30 km (18.6 mi) south of Avignon. The motorways in France have proven to be smooth and easy for travelers to follow.
TIP There are a lot of restaurants and gift shops that lead up to the steep walk to the entrance of the chateau. It makes for a lovely outing and you could spend a half to full day here.

Set within a large rock quarry, the Carrières de Lumières is a dramatic, visual multimedia display that is lit up within an enormous room made from walls of rock. This is one of the highlights of Provence that you cannot miss. Children will love the images captured on the walls that they can also touch.
DIRECTIONS From Chȃteau des Baux-de-Provence, walk down the main walkway, through the parking lot and around the corner to the entrance of Carrières de Lumières.
TIP The setting can get rather dark, despite the lights of the display, so infants may be startled. It can get crowded since this is such a popular destination.
