The park is one of the most popular parks in the Netherlands, with over 10 million visitors a year, and much of the population travels on bicycles. Be watchful of small children running from one play area to another. With so many visitors, there have been problems with trash and littering. Make sure to take out what you bring into this beautiful park.

About This Day

Whether we travel near or far, a park or green space is a must for my daughters. Vondelpark is Amsterdam's largest park and the perfect spot to take a breather between museum visits and exploring sights. There are beautiful fountains and gardens with great trees for climbing, 2 wonderful playgrounds and an amazing wading pool that is perfect for small kids to just sit and play in the water. Even though the park was packed with people the minute we entered the gates, there was so much to see, do and simply play that it never felt crowded or overwhelming. So when you visit Amsterdam with kids, spend some time soaking up the park's unique atmosphere and let your kids run wild at Vondelpark's playgrounds.

Vondelpark is Amsterdam's largest park (at more than 120 acres!) and Netherland's most popular. There are so many things to see and do at this park -- there are several rose gardens (consisting of over 70 varieties), free open-air summer concerts, walking and biking trails, 2 large playgrounds, a wading pool and cafes/restaurants. There are even ice cream bike carts zipping by. So, a sweet treat for the little ones is never far.
DIRECTIONS Vondelpark is centrally located and easy to get to from almost anywhere. Public transport is the best way to get to Vondelpark. From Amsterdam Central Station, take trams 2, 5, 12, 13, or 17, and exit at Leidseplein. From there it's a 2-minute walk to the park.
TIP Take advantage of the many bike rentals in Amsterdam and near the park -- especially the cargo bikes, which you can use to transport the kids and a picnic.

Vondelpark has 2 wonderful playgrounds -- with large swings that can fit more than 2 friends, modern climbing structures for adventures up high, a playground out in the woods with great shade and tents made from tree branches, and a wading pool to cool off. The playgrounds provide fun for the kids, relaxation for the parents and a great place to meet new friends from around the world for the whole family.
TIP Be aware of the bike traffic and keep a watchful eye on small children running from one play area to the next.
