Pack baby powder for your trip to the beach. It is the best trick to removing sand from the body without water!

About This Day

Sullivan’s Island is a great day trip from Charleston with kids and offers one of the best beaches in South Carolina for families. Going to the beach on Sullivan's Island can easily be a full-day activity, but it’s best to do it in short bursts so you don't wear yourselves out. For breakfast, stop at Callie's Hot Little Biscuit for the best biscuits you’ll ever taste! Then spend the morning beachside at Sullivan's Island Beach. Your children will love the wide sandy beach. Once your kids are hungry, head over to Poe’s Tavern for a quick, delicious meal.

Callie's homemade biscuits are out of this world! Each day there are new specials, such as blackberry-filled country ham and black pepper bacon. Biscuits for breakfast are served early at Callie's Hot Little Biscuit (7 a.m. during the week, and 8 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays).
DIRECTIONS Callie's Hot Little Biscuit is off of King Street, between Mary Street and Ann Street.
TIP Callie's is a very small place. It's meant for you to walk in, grab biscuits and walk out. There are about 4 to 5 stools that might be available. I'd suggest calling ahead, but once you arrive, you will still need to wait in line to pick up the order.

Sullivan's Island Beach is perfect for families who want the beach experience without the crowds. There are additional public access areas aside from Station 21st Street, such as Station 19th Street and Station 26th Street. The beach is flat and the waves are very small. It's been perfect for my little nuggets ever since they were babies.
DIRECTIONS From King Street, head away from downtown toward Mary Street and make a right. Turn left onto Meeting Street and take Highway 17 toward Mt. Pleasant. Continue straight onto SC-703 East to Ben Sawyer Blvd. Once you've crossed the bridge, you're on Sullivan's Island. Make a right onto Middle Street. Turn left onto Station 21st Street. Drive down until the road curves around to the right. The beach is straight ahead.
TIP Park along the grass, but pay attention to where you can and can't park. Sullivan's Island is starting to change the rules about where you can and can't park.

Poe's Tavern is known for their burgers. My nuggets are vegan, so we were happy to find out that they made a veggie burger that is wonderful! It's nothing fancy. The perfect beachside, neighborhood restaurant. You'll find lots of families eating inside and outside.
DIRECTIONS Poe's Tavern is just 3 minutes from the beach, located on Middle Street.
TIP Outside seating is available, but the main restaurant is up a flight of steps. Try and leave the stroller in the car.
