Dress warmly and bring your address book so you can send mail to friends and family back home.
Winter is the best month for this festive setting.
About This Day
Enjoy this half-day itinerary at Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Finland. Begin by heading to Snowman World Igloo Hotel and its activity park. The park offers loads of family fun like tubing slides, ice slides and of course ice skating. Then, explore the unique rooms at the cool Igloo Hotel. Find your way to the Ice Bar and get a hot drink out of a cup made of ice. Lastly, take the short walk over to Santa Claus' Post Office and send some specialty postmarked mail home to friends and family. Also, don't forget to provide your information to have Santa send you a letter at Christmastime.
Snowman World has both accommodations (ice hotel, glass igloos) and an activities park. The activities park is packed with fun. Adults and kids alike will have a blast on the snow slides and ice skating. There is even a slide made entirely of ice for the adventurous ones. All the necessary equipment is included in the entrance fee. With the same ticket, you can admire ice sculptures while visiting the Ice Restaurant, Ice Bar and Igloo Hotel.
DIRECTIONS Snowman World is located in Santa Claus Village.
TIP Be careful on the ice, it's slippery. Little ones get excited and often forget and fall down.
The Snowman World Ice Bar and Restaurant is a good place to take a break, have a warm drink and snack or eat a meal. The large igloo reaches from the floor to the ceiling. Everything in this bar is made of snow and ice. Even the drinks are served in ice glasses. The entire family will also find it fun to spend some time exploring the igloo hotel and the snow and ice sculptures throughout.
This is a real post office, part of the official network of Finland’s post office or "Posti." Items are for sale to mail home to friends and family. Watch the postal elves opening and sorting the 500,000+ letters that are sent to Santa each year. There is even a bin of pacifiers that have been mailed to Santa from boys and girls around the world. All items sent from here are stamped with a very special Arctic Circle postmark that is not in use anywhere else in the world. Put your letter in a regular mailbox or choose to drop your greetings into the unique Christmas mailbox. Anything dropped into the Christmas mailbox will be delivered to the recipient just before Christmas. Also, fill out a form to have someone receive a special letter from Santa himself. The letter will arrive right before Christmas with a certificate of niceness (if applicable). There are large tables to sit at to fill out your mail, or bring it completed to mail.
DIRECTIONS Located in Santa Claus Village.
TIP We completed our postcards at our hotel room to avoid the crowds that can be at the tables. Mom went back alone to fill out the forms to have letters sent to the kids at Christmastime. Don't forget to send mail to yourself (one for delivery now, and one for next Christmas). We wrote wishes or reminders about the trip to ourselves for the ones to arrive in December.
