Pui O is a pretty and laid back beach on Lantau Island. It has warm water and a small surf break against a lush hilly backdrop. Try and spot the wild water buffalos that roam the nearby fields and sometimes venture onto the beach. In this setting, you will feel miles away from the hectic city centre as your nuggets play in the surf. You can also rent surfboards (foam) or take lessons. This trip is such a wonderful thing to do in Hong Kong with kids. It is a lovely respite from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.
DIRECTIONS The beach is a 10-minute walk from the bus stop in Pui O.
TIP The beach has shower and bathroom facilities, and there are lifeguards on duty in the summer. Make sure to pack some sunscreen and water.

Who knew Hong Kong had a surf shack? Mavericks serves simple but tasty salads and meals right on the beach. The place is chill, yet buzzing (and it gets busy during the weekend, so get there early). It has simple seating in the open dining room and the adjoining terrace. It offers a "mini mavericks" kids menu and plenty of refreshing drink options to quench your thirst after playing in the surf. It's a great place for a relaxing afternoon before gathering your forces to walk back to the bus stop and get back to Hong Kong Island.
DIRECTIONS Mavericks is located directly on Pui O Beach. You cannot miss it.
TIP Mavericks is only open in the evenings (from 5 p.m.) during weekdays, but opens at 11 a.m. on weekends.
