I recommend going in the spring or fall. Summer in Palm Springs is incredibly hot.

Off-season for Palm Springs is in the summer, so you could save some money on hotels if you go in the summer as opposed to spring, winter or fall.

About This Day

Looking for things to do in Palm Springs for kids? This itinerary offers a nice mixture of relaxation and adventure. In the morning, relax at the hotel and take advantage of all the fun things to do at The Saguaro Hotel Palm Springs. Our kids loved to splash in the pool with the colorful floats, swing on the hammocks and play a round of cornhole. For the latter part of the day head up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and enjoy the amazing views of Southern California from Mt. San Jacinto National Park. This day boasts beauty and fun!

The hotel property is a great place to spend a morning or an afternoon swimming and playing with all the fun floats available at the pool, as well as swinging in the hammocks and playing a game or two of cornhole. There are also picnic tables to have lunch and beanbag chairs to lounge.
TIP We were there on a weekday and the atmosphere was very chill with a few kids around the property. I hear that weekends are filled with lots of 20- to 30-year-old single adults and might not be quite as kid-friendly.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a 10-minute ride with a spectacular 360-degree view of the Chino Canyons. At the top, you will arrive at Mt. San Jacinto State Park, where you can hang out for as long as you like. Hike the trail to the bottom of the canyon, have a picnic, take in the views at the observation decks and explore the museum and gift shop.
DIRECTIONS From the hotel, the drive to the aerial tramway takes about 20 minutes. Head west on East Palm Canyon Drive toward South Sunrise Way. Turn right at the first cross street onto South Sunrise Way. Use the left two lanes to turn left onto East Vista Chino. Next, turn right onto North Palm Canyon Drive. Then, turn left onto Tramway Road and it will be on your right.
TIP Bring jackets for the kids. It is a good 15 to 20 degrees cooler at the top. Bring snacks or a sack lunch. We ate at the overpriced on-site restaurant and it was not good at all. Also, due to the extreme elevation gain, my daughter's ear pressure didn't equalize on the way down. She had lots of pain later that night. Pack some water to drink or gum to chew to help equalize the pressure.

WE LOVEDWe loved the bright colors and all the fun things on the property to keep the kids entertained. We also loved that there was a Ralph's Grocery Store right across the street with a Starbucks inside.
WE DIDN'T LIKEThe hotel didn't have a microwave and had a very small fridge, so we were a bit limited with not eating out. The crowd at this hotel consists of very hip, young and single 20- to 30-year-olds; I was hoping it would have more of a family vibe.
TIPI hear the the on-site restaurant is really good. I wish we would have tried it out.
