Good to know

About This Day
Thinking of visiting Slovenia with kids? Here's the perfect day-long itinerary for families who are planning Lake Bled holidays. You'll begin the day by renting bikes to take out on the 6 km (about 3.7 miles) loop along the water. After riding for a bit, make a pit stop to rent a rowboat and paddle over to the church on Bled Island. Next, continue biking along the lake until you reach the Castle Bathing Area, where you'll stop for a quick dip in the water if weather permits. After your swim, don't forget to go to Vila Preseren for a slice of Bled's famous cream cake! Finally, it's time for your last destination - Bled Castle. Admire the castle from below, or hike to the top and explore the castle grounds with your kids. After a fun-filled day, return your bikes and get some well-deserved rest after exploring all that Lake Bled has to offer!
Begin the day by renting bikes from Helia. They have all the equipment you may need when traveling with kids, such as helmets, child seats, bike trailers, etc. After you're geared up and ready to go, ride your bikes down to the path by Lake Bled and begin the 6 km (about 3.7 miles) loop around the water.
DIRECTIONS Helia is located right in town and is close to the lake, thus making it easily accessible. Walk over to Helia's office at Trubarjeva 8 and rent your bikes here.
Rent a rowboat for the family and paddle over to Bled Island. Boats are rented by the hour and the rowing takes about 10-15 minutes each way. Once you reach the island, you can walk around the grounds or purchase tickets to go inside the famous church and bell tower. Kids will love ringing the bell inside the church! While on the island, you can also stop for a drink, snack or ice cream to recharge.
DIRECTIONS After picking up your bikes from Helia, head along the southern side of the lake and follow the path. This is the side of the lake where the main road runs alongside it. Continue along, past the main gondola launching point on the southern end and past the Vila Bled hotel. Eventually, you will see a rowboat rental station along the water. Stop here to rent a boat for the family and start your adventure over at Bled Island. If you have reached the campground and shops at the western edge, you have gone too far.
TIP Expect to pay around 10-20 euros per hour for the boat rental. Don't forget to bring ID for the rental too! Additionally, tickets for the Bled Island church cost 6 euros for each adult and 1 euro for each kid. Make sure to bring plenty of cash, as both of these are cash only.
Castle Bathing Area
11 Veslaška promenada, Bled
The Castle Bathing Area is a specific section of Lake Bled that is blocked off for swimming. Here you'll find slides and all other kinds of watersports gear like kayaks and paddleboards. There are several stands nearby that also sell snacks and drinks as well. Entry to the Castle Bathing Area is 7 euros for adults and 5 euros for children under 14.
DIRECTIONS Once you return to your bikes after your trip to Bled Island, continue your journey around the lake. When you reach the Castle Bathing Area, park your bikes and head to the water for a swim!
TIP Make sure to have cash for the entry fee, as they only accept cash here! Also, if you'd rather not buy food at the stands, bring your own food and drinks and enjoy a picnic lunch along the lake before arriving at the Castle Bathing Area.
Vila Preseren is a great place to stop for a slice of Bled's famous cream cake. It's perhaps the city's most well-known culinary specialty and a must-try for visitors in Bled. Plus, Vila Preseren has a small slide set adjacent to the outdoor patio that's great for kids. They can slide and have fun, while you relax and enjoy your cake on the patio.
DIRECTIONS After you dry off from your swim, get back on your bikes and go to Vila Preseren. It's a short 2-3 minute bike ride, so make sure to be on the lookout for it!
Bled Castle is located just above Lake Bled and is thought to be the oldest castle in Slovenia. Once you arrive at the castle, explore the grounds and take in the beautiful views of Lake Bled from the hilltop. You can also purchase tickets to go inside and learn more about the history of the castle.
DIRECTIONS From Vila Preseren, you won't have to go far to see Bled Castle. If you look up, you're sure to see the castle sitting atop the hill. There are numerous paths leading up to the castle, and from this point, all are about a 15-20 minute walk.
