To view the original dinosaur footprints, you will need to go on a day when the tide is lower than 2.16m (7.1 ft). Tours of the microbrewery are at 11 a.m. on a Wednesday or Friday. For live music visit Matso's Brewery on Sundays.

The best time to visit Broome is May to September, although July will be the busiest month due to the good weather and Australian school holidays.

To curb costs, we recommend packing a picnic or self-catering breakfast or dinner. You can buy all your food and baby needs at one of the nearby supermarkets.

About This Day

Broome is full of unique surprises for families, the first of which is how many of its attractions depend on the tides. This afternoon mini-adventure is perfect for the whole family. Kids can explore brilliant natural history - like real dinosaur footprints at Gantheaume Point. Parents can look forward to Broome’s good food and Matso’s mango beer. It's a fun itinerary for Broome with kids!

Start this afternoon with lunch at Matso's Brewery. An institution in Broome, Matso's Brewery was recommended by virtually everyone before we arrived. In addition to the mango beer, we recommend the ginger beer and session ale. If you’re around at 11 a.m. on a Wednesday or Friday you can take a tour of the microbrewery for $35 per person. Visit on a Sunday and enjoy some live music in the beer garden. There are also wine, cocktails for the non-beer drinker and non-alcoholic options for children - and drivers.
TIP If you want to enjoy the food at their famous Curry Hut, that's only open for dinner from Friday until Tuesday.

Entrance Point, just past the port, where the boats launch (hence the name), is fast becoming a favourite wedding spot. This beach isn’t necessarily a must-do in Broome, but it is picturesque and a good spot for walking off a meal. We enjoyed collecting shells and checking out the unique rock formations along the beach.
DIRECTIONS Entrance Point is a 12 minute drive from the brewery south along Port Dr.
TIP There are no facilities nearby so make sure you go to the bathroom before heading here. Be careful if you decide to swim, as it is not a patrolled beach.

The colors at Gantheaume Point are simply phenomenal. Its red pindan dirt is set against a backdrop of turquoise ocean, with bright blue skies. At high tide, it’s easy to see how the French mistook this beautiful point for an island when they arrived in the early 1800s. A few times a month, when the tide is below 2.16m (7.1 ft), visitors can see the footprints of dinosaurs that walked here some 130 million years ago. You’ll need to climb down some pretty slippery rocks to view them, so it’s best not to lug a toddler down there. Instead, parents should tag-team.
DIRECTIONS Head back up Port Drive and turn left onto Kavite Rd and follow for about 10 minutes.
TIP Gantheaume Point is a great alternative to Cable Beach for sunset. If you’re not in town at the right time or are unable to climb down the rocks, there are some replica footprints set in plaster for you to check out.
