Prepare in advance
Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy around the picnic tables at Maplewood Farm. Make sure everyone has a water bottle and don't forget to bring your camera. The water at Lynn Canyon is very cold (glacier runoff), but my nugget thoroughly enjoyed walking around in the shallow areas, so for this I recommend sandals. Your best bet for carrying your nugget on this hike is to have a hiking carrier backpack.
Good to know
Hiking into the canyon should be taken slowly. There are many stairs and a few trickier spots depending on what trail you take. The first thing you'll want to check out before descending into the canyon is the suspension bridge. It is located at the beginning of the trails close to the visitor center.
Recommended day/time
These are sunny day activities. Weekends are always busier, making it more difficult to find parking. If you're taking public transit, buses come more frequently on weekdays.
Recommended time of the year
Summer is the most enjoyable season for these activities, anywhere between June and September.

Lynn Canyon is free and Maplewood Farm is pretty inexpensive. Save money by bringing your own food and water.
About This Day
This half-day itinerary to Lynn Canyon and Maplewood Farm is an excellent outing while visiting North Vancouver. Whether or not you visit with kids, this day has something for everyone. Start off the morning right with a hike (after breakfast of course) at Lynn Canyon. It's a surefire way to set the mood right for an adventure in Vancouver. Bring water, snacks, cash and a hiking carrier, as it's the best bet for exploring here with little ones. Then set out for the trails, fresh air, a 30-foot pool and family-friendly exploring on this mini-adventure. Next, head over to Maplewood Farm for more nature and some adorable animals. Here, enjoy watching the kids interact with the animals in a beautiful, lush and mountainous setting. All in all, a fun day out with the kids in North Vancouver.
Lynn Canyon

Begin at the visitor center, afterward go straight to the trailhead and head down the stairs to the right to check out the suspension bridge before beginning the hike. The bright blue canyon water and forest backdrop are a serious sight for sore eyes. There are a variety of trails to choose from, of differing difficulties and lengths. The best part of the canyon is the beautiful glacier water running through. One must see is the 30-foot pool. The trail to this stunning part of the canyon is easy and mostly boardwalk. Other than the 30-foot pool, the next best sight would be Twin Falls. It is not as hot of a spot for tourists as the 30-foot pool. Therefore, this is the place where one can really reflect on the beauty of the area. The forest alone has so much beauty in its detail.
DIRECTIONS
Lynn Canyon is accessible by car or public transit. Bus #227 is currently the bus that goes to the Lynn Canyon entrance. In-depth instructions can be found on the website. Once at the canyon, take a pit stop at the visitor center to grab a map. Also, use the washroom, check your nugget's diaper and fill up your water bottles.
TIP
While hiking in the canyon, take time to sit in suitable areas and let your nugget do a little bit of wandering.
Maplewood Farm

Maplewood Farm is the cutest place in all of Vancouver. It's the perfect way to spend an afternoon with little ones. Interact with all kinds of friendly farm animals and hang out with some adorable goats. Also, learn about life on a peaceful little farm in the middle of the city. The set up is top notch. First, hit the visitor station, then head to the right to meet your new animal best friends. The trails are easy to follow, with one that goes around the entire farm. You'll be gently guided along by your own eagerness to see what's next. Before you know it, you've arrived at the best part of all: the goat visiting area. This is by far the best photo op on the farm, snap as many as you can. The pictures of your nugget with the cutest bunch in town will be cherished for years to come.
DIRECTIONS
Take the #227 bus from the Peters Road and Duval Road intersection to Phibbs Exchange. Then, jump off to take the C15 to Old Dollarton Road/Front Street. From there, its about a 10-minute walk to Maplewood Farm.
TIP
Pack a lunch to enjoy after visiting with all the animals. Hand sanitizer is available on site but bringing your own is always a good idea. Bring cash (change) to buy treats for the animals. Be sure to check out the website and find the "rabbit-safe shopping list" in the Hands On section, so you can bring some treats for the rabbits from home.
