Prepare in advance
Expect sudden weather changes in Wellington, so bring swimsuits, towels, jackets or jumpers, hats, long pants and shorts. Water and a picnic mat are always a good idea. We always take a picnic everywhere in Wellington, as it's perfect for it. Plus, dining out is pricey.
Good to know
Be aware that the playground has water and lots of games for kids. The beach is near the playground, so don't forget swimsuits, hats, water and sun protection.
Recommended day/time
This is a place to spend the whole day, but the best day is Sunday, as they have the Kapiti Miniature Train going on. A definite favorite with the nuggets.
Save Money
Again, a picnic is a great idea. The day is long and they always want to to eat and drink.

If you're looking for fun things for families to do in New Zealand, spend a day at Raumati Beach. This day outdoors offers space to relax for parents and countless activities for the little ones to enjoy. Pack a picnic and begin at the Raumati Marine Gardens. The playground here is beyond compare. Your children will be in awe at the options before them. If you plan well and come on a Sunday, the Kapiti Miniature Railway will be open. Afterward, pry them from the playground and head to Raumati Beach, just next door. It's a huge, sprawling beach that the kids will certainly enjoy. Before leaving, end the day with some fish and chips at Raumati Fish Supply & Takeaways.

We arrived at Raumati Marine Gardens around 11 a.m. with our picnic ready. Our nuggets complained because we were leaving home as they were playing with Legos, but their faces when we arrived were amazing. Families can easily spend the whole day here. There's a great playground with a water park, trampoline, the Kapiti Miniature Train (only on Sundays), plus lots of games for toddlers and kids. We spent the whole day between the playground and the beach, having a picnic and just playing. Before leaving we had some fish and chips at Raumati Fish Supply & Takeaways, just outside the playground.
DIRECTIONS
We went by car, just use google maps and follow the guide. Parking is free.
TIP
The train operates only from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sundays, kids under 3 ride for free and kids above 3 cost $1.50 NZD per ride. There is shade and picnic tables, so you're all set.

Raumati Beach is a huge beach located just next to the playground. This is a great day for families on holiday or even if you live in Wellington, New Zealand, full of relaxation and fun. Spend the whole day between the playground and the beach.
