When visiting New York City, its worthwhile to get acquainted with the lifestyle of New Yorkers. The city that never sleeps is always full of busy people walking fast, very fast, so keep up to speed or prepare to be yelled at.

Familiarize yourself with the subway system, that will probably be your best way to move around.

New York is always busy, avoid peak hours during the weekdays. Weekends are more relaxed.
Recommended time of the year
Summer is always a good time to visit. Avoid going during Christmas time. New York is normally crowded, around the holidays it is nearly impossible to walk.
Save Money
If you know someone in New York, ask if you can stay with them. That would save a hotel stay. Another option is using Airbnb. The best way to explore the city is using public transportation, the metro to be exact.

Plus, New York with kids is enchanting in a unique way, with almost endless avenues full of skyscrapers and sights. Additionally, it's a melting pot of different cultures, smells and sounds. Start off by heading to One World Trade Center. Next, take a ferry ride on the Staten Island Ferry. End your day at the wonderful Times Square. One World Trade Center

The line twists and turns a few times until you are finally in the elevator. The elevator trip alone is quite an experience. While you are going up, a movie plays and you see how the city skyline has changed through the years: from nothing, to the city as we know it today. Then all of a sudden you are inside a building under construction. Yes, you get to see how the One World was built, a unique view from the inside. The observatory is located on floors 100-102 and it includes 360-degree views of the city, shops, exhibits and restaurants.
DIRECTIONS
There is a subway station right at the bottom to One World Trade Center (World Trade Center Station). Once you arrive at the station, walk north on Greenwich Street and make a left onto Fulton Street.
TIP
Tickets for the observatory cost $28 (ages 6-12) and $34 (ages 13-64) when purchased online. Prepare to stand in line for over an hour. Like in previous trips, we avoid electronics because we want the kids to look around and embrace their surroundings, but if you find that too overwhelming, bring some entertainment.
Staten Island Ferry

The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and departs every 30 minutes. A must-do on the list of New York attractions for families. Riding the ferry to Staten Island is a great way to view the lower Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty as well.
DIRECTIONS
As you walk out from One World, head east on Fulton Street, make a right on Greenwich Street and then left on Cortland Street. Take the subway at Fulton Street Station to Whitehall Street Station. The Staten Island Ferry Terminal is located across the street.
TIP
Be there on time to board and get a nice spot on the ferry. This boat ride offers plenty of opportunities for pictures.
Times Square

Times Square is full of life no matter the day, the time, rain or shine. There is so much to see here and as expected, a lot of people. Grab some dinner here, then after dinner, head to the M&Ms store to buy some candy (M&Ms of course!).
DIRECTIONS
When you return to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal head to South Ferry Station. Trains run every 5 minutes to Times Square.
TIP
Keep an eye on your kids, with so many people walking it is easy to get lost, especially if they are small. Keep the walk simple and short, there is so much to absorb. Also, be aware that, being Times Square, anything is possible, so your kids might end up seeing things not appropriate for their age.
