About This Day

Art and nature lovers alike will enjoy this half day in Giverny. The beauty of the gardens mixed with the fact that a great artist once lived and painted there makes for such an enjoyable visit. Kids and parents will enjoy the colorful flowers and many beautiful photo opportunities. With Giverny only an hour from Paris, Monet's gardens make for the perfect day trip to get outside the hustle and bustle of the city.

The gardens of Monet are simply breathtaking. It’s said that when Monet was alive, he had a full-time gardener who would pick out every dead leaf from the ponds to ensure it’s beauty. Here you can wander through different settings of Monet's work and see his masterpieces as they would appear in real life. Your children will enjoy running around smelling and admiring all the flowers (our oldest nugget especially enjoyed seeing the huge lily pads) Parents will love taking in all the nature and spotting different scenes from famous paintings.
DIRECTIONS The easiest way to get to Monet's Gardens from Paris is to drive. It's roughly a 1-hour drive via the A14 and A13. Either rent a car for the day or arrange for a taxi/Uber.
TIP Don't be afraid to take your time wandering through the gardens. There's so much to see and it's a wonderful place to be surrounded by nature.

Monet's house is full of little rooms and beautiful paintings. Here you can visit the amazing kitchen full of copper pots and pans, Monet's bedroom, his studio-sitting room, and more. Duplicates of the artist's paintings are hung all around the house as well. Your kids will enjoy looking through the free activity booklet while parents take in all the wonderful history. After touring the house, if time permits, there are wonderful little cafés, restaurants, and shops near Monet's estate that are definitely worth visiting!
DIRECTIONS Walk back through the gardens and enter Monet's house through the back door.
TIP This location in not stroller friendly. Some hallways and stairways may be too narrow for some baby carriers, so please plan on holding children, using a small, compact carrier, or allowing children to walk through the house.
